A bitter pill to swallow for Pride
Defending 171 after skipper Ben Perry top-scored with 71, the Pioneers chased down the total with four balls to spare with Nivin Sathyajith anchoring the chase, scoring 84.
Sathyajith also starred with the ball, taking 3-32 in an all-round performance for the Pioneers who secured second place in Pool A.
In other results, South East Bayside Breakers claimed an easy victory over the South East Sharks.
Chasing 70, half-centuries to openers Shubham Bhargave and Mackenzie Harvey meant that the Breakers consolidated top spot in Pool A.
It was also an easy victory for the Western Waves over the Barwon Rockets on the back of a century from Wil Fleming.
Fleming made 102 of the Waves’ 7-167, which proved far too much for the Rockets, who were bowled out for 96 thanks to four wickets to Lachlan Field.
Outer East Eagles claimed a tough victory over the Inner East Emus, chasing down 138.
Contributions from Daniel Thompson (33) and Joshua Hartill (36) set the tone for the Eagles before Samuel Hennessey finished the job with an unbeaten 24.
Western Spirit escaped with a nail-biting victory over the Central Highlands.
Defending only 102, three run-outs helped the Spirit before a late partnership between Connor Ronan and Joel Cadman brought the Highlands within touching distance of victory before the latter’s dismissal sealed his side’s fate.
Skipper Fergus O’Neill helped North West Wizards to his side’s second victory of the tournament over North East Knights.
O’Neill scored an unbeaten 69 before an even bowling performance skittled the Knights 21 runs short of the Wizards total of 148.
Andrew Poppa has scored his second half-century of the carnival, helping Northern Rivers to the top of Pool D with a victory over the Inner South East Scorpions.
Poppa scored 60 at the top of the order on the way to 9-129, before Alistair McCann took 3-22, bowling the Scorpions out for 94.
Northern Falcons have beaten a gallant Mallee Murray Bulls outfit by six runs.
Brody Bell and Tom Coulter both took three wickets before late order resistance from Lewin Davis (40) and Lochie O’Brien (28) helped the Bulls to 154, but ultimately proved to be not enough.
