Opening its campaign with a win against South Australia, Victoria made a solid start to the tournament.

Playing in the 35-over format, Victoria won the toss and elected to bat in its first match, with captain Annabel Sutherland (20*) and Maddy Stirling (14) combining to push Victoria’s total to 6-98.

In reply, Clementine Ryan-Fuller was pivotal in Victoria’s bowling attack, taking three early wickets and completing her spell with 4-2 from seven overs.

With steady wickets throughout the innings, Victoria restricted South Australia to 63 to claim a 25-run victory.

In its second game, Victoria completed its innings on 9-90, with Sutherland (26) and Holly Spencer (24) combining for a strong partnership.

Despite Sutherland’s two-wicket haul, Victoria was unable to defend its target, with Queensland reaching 5-134.

The girls’ tournament also sees the presence of a Victorian Invitational team, which remain winless after suffering losses to New South Wales and South Australia.

In their first game of the tournament, NSW posted 5-174, with wickets being shared by Tahleah Ticehurst (2-38), Becky Petty (1-22), Macey Brereton (1-24) and Alannah Dahlsen (1-24).

NSW continued to show its dominance, dismissing the Invitational team out for 26 in 18.5 overs.

In their second game, Thenushi Perera (2-17) and Sarah Sansonetti (3-7) proved to be potent in the bowling attack, restricting South Australia’s total to 9-108.

However, the Victorian Invitational team were again unable to reach the total, reaching 59 in reply.

The two Victorian teams will face each other in tomorrow’s round three clash.
