Game in the balance
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Queensland quick Billy Stanlake claimed the early wickets of Jack Rudd (five) and Matt Short (two), before skipper Pat McKenna (13*) and James Lidgett (12*) stemmed the flow – leaving the game precariously placed at 2-36.
With a minimum of 112 overs to be bowled today, coach Jarrod Loughman said that plans would be reassessed in light of the conditions.
“We’re slightly behind the eight-ball having lost the two wickets so it’s a case of consolidating early and getting ourselves back in the game,” Loughman said.
“If Patty and James can get themselves set again and keep wickets in hand, it’ll give us every opportunity to set Queensland a total.”
With nearly four sessions of cricket still to be played, there is still be plenty of time for Loughman’s men to find their second win of the Championships and place Victoria in prime position to secure the title with two games to play.
“We’re certainly looking to win the game – that’s what we’re here for,” Loughman said.
“A draw really is a last resort – we don’t plan on handing points to anyone we play against.”
