It’s fair to say that the Outer East Eagles can lay claim to having the best young talent Victoria has to offer.
Despite only claiming five wins across the age groups, Regional Cricket Manager Jarrod Leggett proudly boasts about the talent his region has at its disposal.
“The Outer East had the most Victorian underage representatives picked from it after the carnival last year, so we’re really proud of that,” Leggett said
“In saying that, we’re looking to translate talents into wins now.”
With all squads finalised, Leggett is quietly confident with all age groups leading into the Championships.
“The under-18s won their group games and played some really good cricket, so there’s no reason as to why we can’t replicate our performance,” Leggett said.
With over half the squad from last year being retained, Leggett expects the side to be much better off for the experience.
“They would have learnt a lot from last year’s Championships, and hopefully they can implement those lessons into this year’s games,” he said.
In the under-16s, manager Mark Wilson believes that the potential of his squad knows no limits.
“There are some bloody good players here,” Wilson said.
“We’re here to nurture their cricketing future, and we want to do it the right way.”
“We’ve picked the kids who we see futures in, and they’re not necessarily the match winners – but the kids who play the right way.”
In the under-14s, Leggett wants the squad to understand the opportunity they have at hand.
“We want these kids to take this chance with both hands,” Leggett said.
“For most of them, it will be their first time on turf and in such a professional environment. So we want them to soak in as much as they can and take it away for life.”
