Price is Wright for East Metro
Before their impressive win in the final, East Metro signaled their intentions for the day early, with their semi final match against the South East Sharks.
Their spectacular start began after winning the toss and opener Price pummeling a half-century (51*).
The squad’s fine form continued as young gun Wright joined Price at the pitch, to blast 47.
Even a fighting effort from the Sharks’ Hannah Burr (3-5) was not enough to counter the East Metro attack, posting an impressive 131.
Despite double figure contributions from the Sharks’ top order, including Elly Donald (19) and Vicki Sanford (19), East Metro ripped through the Sharks’ middle order to dismiss their opponents for 97 and secure their place in the final against the North East Knights.
Coming off a comfortable 38-run win over the Northern Rivers in the semi-final, the Knights were ready to hunt down this year’s silverware.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, East Metro were swiftly reminded that winning would be no easy feat after opener Claire Wilson stamped her authority on the match, shining for the Knights with a half century (50*).
Mary Sandral (18) and Georgia Bye (14) joined Wilson at the crease with strong contributions but Jessica Adams triggered the Knights’ collapse, snagging 3-17 to leave East Metro chasing 114.
In reply, Price and Wright continued their starring roles in the tournament, hammering 35 and 32 respectively.
With the help of Bella Poon (17), the top order looked set to steer their side to certain triumph.
Despite Maddison Howard providing a glimmer of hope for the Knights after pocketing 2-11, East Metro proved too strong and sailed pass their opponents in the twenty-second over, securing their title as 2013-2014 state champions.
Fighting for third place, Rivers’ Tayla Vlaeminck sparked an exceptional start for her side against the Sharks, hitting 44 runs.
However, after failing to find momentum the Rivers’ batting order struggled to register double fingers.
Chasing 101, it was the outstanding individual efforts from Amy Yates (42) and Elly Donald (32), that helped the Sharks secure third spot, passing the Rivers in the 17th over.
