Shark attack at U-14 Championships

Requiring six off the final over, Tanay Katarey (5*) hit the winning runs off the last ball, sparking scenes of jubilation from the Sharks who claimed their first win of the carnival.

After Jaxon Dooley (34) and Sam Fletcher (31) gave the Sharks a solid platform at 1-72, the Pride were able to grind themselves back into the game with tight spells from Gippsland skipper Ben Perry (1-18 off 8) and Caleb Serong (2-23 off 7) wrestling back momentum.

However, Katarey and Sam Sturt were able to scamper through for the winning runs, finishing at 8-133 from their 40 overs.

Earlier in the day, Perry top scored for the Pride with 35 and was ably supported by Charlie Morrison (28) and Connor Hughes (24).

In other results, Matthew Harris claimed 5-8 as the Southern Pioneers were dismissed for 49.

In reply, all batsmen reached double figures as the Breakers batted out their 40 overs reaching 4-182, with Harry Wardlaw top scoring with 47*.

Barwon Rockets claimed a nail-biting victory over the Outer East Eagles by two wickets.

Sam Allen (46) and Ben Drenovac (28) combined for a 77-run partnership to guide the Rockets home after earlier restricting the Eagles to 8-144 after their allotted overs.

In a low scoring affair, 107 proved to be plenty for the Inner East Emus, dismissing the Western Waves for 67.

Jack Carroll took 4-8 in what proved a match-winning performance, while Lewis Preston earlier took 4-20 for the Waves.

In another low scoring game, Patrick Willach scored a vital 44* to help the North West Wizards to 8-116 against Central Highlands.

In reply, the Highlands could only manage 91, with Willach taking 3-13 in a fantastic all-round performance.

Billy Koziaris took 6-18 and scored 30 as he led the Western Spirit to an inspired victory over the North East Knights.

With the Spirit well on their way to victory at 2-109 chasing 154, Koziaris left the Knights in tatters, dismissing them for 133.

A 130-run stand between William Sutherland and Jack Peters has led the Inner South East Scorpions to a comfortable victory against the Northern Falcons. Setting them 187 for victory, the Falcons faltered against an even bowling attack and were dismissed for 102.

The wickets were also shared as the Northern Rivers dismissed the Mallee Murray Bulls for 100.

In reply, 79 to Andrew Poppa meant that they were never in trouble as he shared partnerships with Todd Murphy (27), Jordan Cleeland (22) and James Ryan (23).
