Victoria claims second

Chasing 9-341, the Victorian attack managed to dismiss the Western Australian line-up for 226.

Play resumed on day two of the clash with Corey Evans and Brooke Guest looking to emulate the Victorian innings.

However, Wes Agar struck early, claiming Evans (4) and leaving Western Australia at 1-21.

A century from Clinton Hinchliffe saw Western Australia lift their run rate, but as wickets continued to fall around him, the Sandgropers were soon dismissed for 226.

With support from Jackson Mockett (2-24) and Agar (2-32), Josh Hudson led the Victorian attack, claiming 3-36 from 12 overs.

“It was fantastic for us to get the win,” Victorian coach Graeme Rummans said.

“We bowled and fielded well with Hudson providing good line and length.”

The 115-run victory saw Victoria complete the series with four wins and one loss, claiming second position and finishing one point behind South Australia.

Having completed the tournament with 343 runs and a batting average of 85.75, Sam Harper was rewarded for his good form and leadership, being named as the captain of the Team of the Championships.

“Harper had a fantastic carnival and deserved to get in as captain,” Rummans said.

“He led the boys really well.”

The accolades were also received by the Victorian bowling attack, with Sam Grimwade (11 wickets), Wes Agar (11 wickets) and Gehan Seneviratne (10 wickets) included as members of the Team of the Championships.

“Sam Grimwade was our most consistent bowler and has a bright future ahead of him,” Rummans said.

“It was also a nice reward for Wes Agar who was our most consistent fast bowler and Gehan exceeded our expectations, bowling well throughout the tournament.

“Hopefully all the boys have learnt something and can go back to their clubs as better cricketers.”
