Victoria鈥檚 next wave of young talent

Fifteen-year-olds, Sophie Van De Heuvel and Jessica Karamoshou, and 14-year-olds Annabel Sutherland and Rosie Wynd played in the representative side against girls three years older than them.

Sutherland, who captained Victoria in the U15 National Championships and was named player of the tournament, played an important role in the CA XI, taking four wickets at 19.75.

In their Twenty20 fixture against Victoria, Sutherland took her Championship best figures of 2-17, which included the wicket of the Player of the Championships Sophie Molineux.

She also claimed the scalp of Makinley Blows who was one of the best batters in the tournament and was invited to Cricket Australia’s talent camp.

Sutherland also made 81 runs throughout the series which included an opening partnership of 96 with Van De Heuvel.

Van De Heuvel was a consistent scorer for the Cricket Australia XI making at least 20 in her first three matches.

She also claimed three wickets in the series, including the scalp of Hope Irvine in the match against Victoria.

Wynd made an impressive 19 against Tasmania in Cricket Australia XI’s opening match but saved her best performance for their last fixture when she led the side to victory against Western Australia.

Despite batting at number nine, Wynd was second top scorer of the innings with 16 as the young side posted 129.

Wynd then claimed 2-17 from eight overs, including two of Western Australia’s key batters, as the CA XI run out victors by 29 runs.

Karamoshou opened the batting in that match for the first time in the series and posted 13 while she also picked up a wicket in her four-over spell.

The Cricket Australia XI finished the tournament with two victories in what will prove to be an invaluable experience for the Victorians involved.
