Victoria’s second round stumble

After Queensland set a big total, both the Victorian boys and girls teams were unable to reach the score in their allocated overs, falling short by 81 and 64 runs respectively.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, the Queensland boys’ team made the perfect start with openers Mitchell Neuendorf (52) and Daniel Brown (46) combining for a 92-run partnership.

The Victorians fought back with the Inner South East Scorpions’ Harrish Kannan (3-18) and the South East Bayside Breakers’ Mitchell Domann (2-13) leading the attack, helping to bowl out Queensland for 162.

In return, the Queensland bowling attack proved too strong for the Victorian batting line-up, dismissing the side for 81 in the 36th over, with Domann top-scoring on 26.

The girls’ division told a similar story to the boys with Queensland again electing to bat.

An unbeaten 54 from Kate McDonald saw the side reach a score of 9-129, with the North East Knights’ Georgia Moorman (3-12) and the Southern Pioneers’ Jessica Matin (2-16) the pick of the bowlers.

Queensland was again a dominant force, with Victoria collapsing, all out for 65 after 29 overs.

Victoria will resume its campaign tomorrow when it faces the Australian Capital Territory.
