Vics finish as runners up
The NSW total of 7-121 proved too strong for the Victorians who were bowled of for 46 in the 19th over.
In the battle of David and Goliath, the young Victorians, in their second Imparja Cup campaign and first ever final, knew the task would be difficult against the seven-time champions.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, NSW openers Ash Gardner and Roxsanne Van-Veen (28) catapulted their innings into action, putting on a 66-run opening stand.
It took an incredible full-stretched catch from Natalie Plane, off Jess Martin’s bowling, on the boundary to dismiss Van-Veen.
Plane ran at full pace from deep backward square leg to take the catch just centimetres off the Alice Springs outfield.
Van-Veen was supported atop the NSW by Gardner and Nicole Honeysett, who both finished with 28 in their side’s total of 7-121.
The Victorian bowling attack was led by Jess Martin (4-15) and Fiona Hale (2-19) who were the sole wicket takers.
In reply, the early wickets of much relied on the opening pair Hale (0) and Jacinta Goodger-Changler (4) immediately hampered the Victorian run chase.
A constant flow of wickets followed and soon the Victorians were dismissed in the 19th over for 46, with captain Renee Melton top scoring with 26.
