Vikings take charge at the G

For the first time this year, the all abilities team came together to participate in various training drills, including both batting and bowling sessions.

Vikings coach Campbell Waring led the training sessions with the aim of giving the players a chance to develop and improve their skills.

“It’s fantastic to be here. They boys are so excited because many of them haven’t been here before, so to be in these facilities where the Bushrangers and the Australian team train is a great opportunity,” Waring said.

“There was some great batting and bowling. You could see some really good development and improved skills just from the coaching today.”

With the looming 2014 tour of England in mind, Australian selectors Bruce Nunn and Paul Montgomery came along to provide words of encouragement.

Also in attendance was Commonwealth Bank Bushranger Ryan Carters, who came to provide some knowledge to the team, taking players for individual batting sessions.

“It’s great to see the Victorian Vikings out here training,” Carters said.

“Everyone is working hard to improve their game and really enjoying themselves.”

The players relished at the chance of training at the MCG and appreciated the support from those who assisted the training sessions.

“It’s a magnificent complex. You’re not going to have the opportunity to always do this,” Victoria Vikings captain Gavan Hicks said.

“It’s not everyday that you have a Victorian Bushrangers player give up their own time to come and help us so that was excellent.”

Later this year, a second training session will be held for the Vikings, as well as a competitive game of cricket.
