CV 2023 Winter Umpire Development Program

Cricket Victoria (CV) is thrilled to announce the launch of our 2023 Umpire Development Program (formerly known as our Umpire Winter Classes).

During the off-season each year, CV conducts a series of umpiring lectures and training sessions aimed at providing umpires with in-depth and theoretical knowledge of the MCC Laws of Cricket.

This year’s program will incorporate the 2023 updates to the MCC Laws of Cricket which come into effect from 1 October 2023.

The Umpire Development Program will be held on 11, 18 and 23 July 2023. This exciting, revamped program will be a combination of theory as well as practical sessions/activities that will equip and enhance your umpiring knowledge of cricket.

The program will be delivered by experienced facilitators with state and national panel experience.

The first two sessions (Tuesday 11 & Tuesday 18 July) will focus on the Laws of Cricket. Both sessions will be held in person at the CitiPower Centre and streamed online via Microsoft Teams for those unable to attend.

We will conclude the program on Sunday 23 July. This session will be strictly in-person, and include several practical activities and discussions which will again be held at the CitiPower Centre in St Kilda.

CV’s State Umpire Coaches will be in attendance to oversee the program and assess each umpire’s knowledge and performance. Your performance may also warrant selection onto the Premier Cricket Umpire Panel.

There is an optional exam to test your understanding and knowledge on the Laws of Cricket to be held following the conclusion of this program, the date for which is 1 August 2023. Please note that this exam is only compulsory for those wishing to join the Premier Panel.
